There is always going to a be a push and pull in an organization to focus on achieving results, and focusing on people to build relationships. It doesn’t, however, have to be under tension. If you focus only on achieving results with the skills of your people, you’ll win a game here and there. But to be the best, to win a championship, takes teamwork.
When you shift from task to relationships, you are able to achieve business breakthroughs.
Having and building strong relationships allows for better results. This becomes even clearer in leadership teams. The best way to achieve objectives, to unite a team, is to find balance between both.

When we say we are 'busy' it often means we are focusing on the importance of tasks. We are prioritizing getting lots of tasks done.
Every time we are asked how we are doing at work, have a think if you are focusing on the tasks? Are you missing an opportunity to connect?
But what would allow us to get to a 10 on Task and a 10 on Relationship? This is a huge area of potential for all organizations and teams.
If you ask them to rate the importance of relationships, they will usually mark this lower, around a 3.
If you were to ask organizations to rate the importance of tasks on a scale, most would say 8 or 9.
